A small, independent speed test built because most of them tell you a number without telling you what it means.

What this is

Zovan Speed Test measures how fast data moves between your device and the internet right now. It reports four things: download, upload, ping and jitter — plus something most tests skip, which is how much your latency rises while the connection is busy.

That last number matters more than people expect. A line can show 200 Mbps and still make video calls stutter, because the moment someone starts a download the delay climbs from 20 ms to 400 ms. The industry calls this bufferbloat. We measure it and tell you plainly.

How the measurement works

  • Your browser opens several parallel connections to Cloudflare’s network and pulls data for ten seconds, then pushes data for nine.
  • The first one and a half seconds of each phase are thrown away, because connections start slow and including that ramp would under-report your speed.
  • Upload is counted from bytes the server has actually confirmed receiving, not bytes handed to your device’s network buffer. Counting the buffer is a common shortcut and it inflates the result.
  • Small timing requests are fired throughout both phases to measure real latency under load, rather than estimating it.

What it cannot tell you

This measures the speed reaching this device, on this connection, at this moment. That is often lower than the speed your provider delivers to your router, and the gap is usually Wi‑Fi rather than the line itself. A wired connection gives a truer picture of what you are paying for.

Very fast connections, roughly above a gigabit, hit the limits of what a web browser can process. If you are on a plan that fast, treat the reading as a floor rather than a ceiling.
